Beyond Performance

Matt Cassano, Head of Sports, shares how the role of a financial advisor can help transition players through all phases of life, from early earning years to retirement.

What makes my job amazing is the clients. The clientele that I work with are professional athletes and coaches. My name's Matt Cassano. I'm a partner at Corient, Head of the Sports and Entertainment division.

One of the key things that our players and coaches need to understand is they're the CEO of a multimillion-dollar business. Every CEO needs three different things. Number one, they need to have a chief operating officer. That's their agent. That's not what we do. Number two is they have a chief marketing officer. That's not what we do. The number three thing, and probably I would say the most important piece is to have a personal CFO. That's what we do, and we do that really, really well.

Being a financial advisor for these players, you get to walk through all phases of life. So, we want to be able to transition them from their early earning years into their prime earning years, and then easily transition them into retirement. We're just an extension of them, and we're making sure that that transition of post-career is absolutely seamless.
